Getting Started & Guides
New to FiveM or Baycrest? Here's everything you need to know to get up and running.
Getting Started with FiveM
- Install FiveM: Download from fivem.net and install to your GTA V directory
- Performance Tips: Lower graphics settings, disable mods, use DirectX 11 for better FPS
- Connect to Baycrest: Get the server IP from Discord and add it to your favorites
- Character Creation: Spend time on your character—roleplay quality starts here
Character Development
- Realistic Backstory: Create a believable history for your character that explains their current situation
- Personality Traits: Define how your character acts, talks, and responds to situations
- Goals: Think about what your character wants to achieve in the city
- Consistency: Stay in character at all times—this is what makes roleplay immersive
- Evolution: Let your character grow and change based on experiences (no future knowledge!)
Basic Commands & Mechanics
- /ooc [message] – Speak out of character (use sparingly)
- /me [action] – Roleplay action (/me adjusts tie)
- /do [action] – Describe the environment (/do It's raining outside)
- Voice & Proximity: Remember that in-game distance affects who hears you—loud vs whisper
- Check your department's SOP: Each job has specific procedures—learn them
Roleplay Best Practices
- Listen More, Talk Less: Good roleplay is a conversation, not a monologue
- Embrace Consequences: If you get injured, robbed, or arrested—play it out. Don't break character
- Give Others a Chance: During interactions, pause and let people respond (no powergaming)
- Respect New Life Rule: After dying, forget everything that happened before
- Stay Immersed: Don't use OOC knowledge in character—it breaks the world
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- ❌ Using /ooc in tense situations—stay in character
- ❌ Naming your character after celebrities or memes
- ❌ Immediately starting crime as a new player—learn the world first
- ❌ Respawning and going right back to die again—value your life
- ❌ Arguing with staff—use appeals or support channels
